OVERVIEW
This practical workshop explained and demonstrated how EMDR can be utilised as part of a therapeutic package in the treatment of adults and children with OCD. The workshop detailed how OCD differs from other psychological disorders and what the treatment implications are for this. Robin described how EMDR can be used for OCD and how it sometimes needs to be adapted and enhanced with other therapeutic approaches such as CBT.
Of particular relevance to OCD, the Flashforwards technique, was described and explained. Worshop participants were given detailed guidance in how to utilise this technique effectively.
The workshop was illustrated throughout with case studies and video materials.
BIO
Dr Robin Logie is a Clinical Psychologist who works with both adults and children. Using EMDR for more than 25 years, he is an EMDR Europe Consultant and Senior Trainer. He was a member of the Board of EMDR Association UK and Ireland for nine years and was President of the Association for three years.
Robin’s particular interests include the use of EMDR with OCD, the Flashforwards procedure and the storytelling (narrative) approach with EMDR.
Robin runs Consultants Trainings in the UK, has presented on EMDR supervision at international conferences and has published a book on this topic.
AIMS
- Equip EMDR practitioners to use EMDR with adults & children presenting with OCD
- Equip EMDR practitioners to effectively use Flashforwards with both adults and children.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Participants will:
- Understand OCD in the context of the AIP model and how EMDR is relevant to the treatment of OCD
- Be aware of how OCD presents in adults & children and how EMDR needs to be adapted for those with OCD
- Understand how stand-alone EMDR is rarely appropriate for clients with OCD and the elements of the comprehensive treatment package that includes EMDR
- Understand and know how to use specific EMDR strategies for treating clients with OCD
- Understand the principles of the Flashforward techniques and its rationale.
- Know how to utilise the Flashforward technique effectively.
